THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SYSTEM

When a cream, lotion or oil is applied to the skin, it does not usually stay there for any significant period of time. This is because it either evaporates, as in the case of essential oils, or is rubbed off. Only a small fraction of what is applied onto the skin actually gets absorbed, and so the benefits are very limited.

The MYCROLATOR® Skin Prep device causes disruption of the uppermost layer of the skin where there are dead cells, called the Stratum Corneum. In causing this disruption, it dramatically increases its surface area, into which the oils are able to absorb and form what can be called 'micro-pockets' or 'micro-reservoirs'.

These reservoirs allow the oils to be gradually absorbed into the skin for much longer than normal. As a result, the beneficial effects are substantially improved and the absorption is sustained for several hours.

The diagram above shows the different ways that creams, oils and pharmaceutical drugs are absorbed through the Stratum Corneum layer of the skin. (1) Intercellular diffusion through lipid lamellae; (2) Transcellular diffusion through the keratinocytes and lipid lamellae. The most effective (3) is through pores.
